Form I-9 – Section 1:
When using the ExponentHR Onboarding utility, a new hire is automatically assigned with the task of filling out the first section (Employment Eligibility) of the form. This is accessed by the new hire upon logging into his/her own unique Onboarding Portal and selecting the Form I-9 task. After completing this section of the form, the new hire is prompted to electronically sign the form (confirming that all the information entered is complete, true, and correct).
In addition to completing Section 2 of the form, employers are also responsible for reviewing the information entered in Section 1 and taking any needed actions regarding any discrepancies or mismatched information.
To review Form I-9, Section 1:
1. On the Management Navigation bar, click HR Administration > Applications > Employee Onboarding.

2. Select the new hire’s name to view the details regarding the individual’s progress. The details on the Employee Onboarding Detail page displays.

3. In the Internal Tasks Progress section, click the displayed Form I-9, Sec 2 option (accessible when the new hire has completed Section 1 of the form and has electronically signed).
Note: If any discrepancies are found between the information on the employee record/EAN and what was entered in Section 1 by the new hire, the Employee Information Mismatch page displays with the available actions* you can take.
*Available Actions:
Send the I-9 Back to the Employee for Correction. The status of the task is set to “Incomplete” and the new hire is notified to review the entered information and make any necessary corrections.
Correct the Personnel Record Information via EAN. The Employee Info task is presented, where the necessary corrections can be entered (even if previously completed).
Continue Without Correction the Discrepancy. Employer is able to proceed with the completion of Section 2 and Form I-9 without addressing any of the mismatched information in Section 1 at this time.
If addressing the mismatched information at a later time (or if you have any other concerns regarding the information provided), click the Send to Emp for Correction button to type a message to the new hire and request that the information in Section 1 be reviewed and corrected as necessary.
